Kat Kohl’s Order and Delineation

Artist Kat Kohl explores the ideas of sculpture’s abilities to change the way we perceive space and the dialogue between objects, the viewer, and the space in which they both reside.

In her work Order and Delineation, she uses material science, light, and technology to create multiple perspectives of her work through transparent/opaque gradients, mirrors, and metal fabrication.

Kat wanted a way to blend digital aspects into this work so she requested our help in her exploration. We strategically created a media server that would take feeds from several cameras surrounding her sculpture and would feed them back into the sculpture through projection mapping. The cameras were hand selected and calibrated for the lighting in the space and the media server were built with a custom software for the mapping and camera routing. Once installed, the installation ran for 2 months and allowed for quick set up, break down, and easy trouble shooting. The effects of the installation were phenomenal as the digital aspects blended with the mirror reflections and the opaque transitions of the installation seamlessly.
